Roots of Rhythm: World Drumming for 5th and 6th Grade Classrooms takes students on a journey to discover different types of drums and rhythm making, encourages them to make their own drums and music, and teaches them about different cultures and how drums have figured in migration and influenced world cultures. Roots of Rhythm was written by professional drummer and expert ethnomusicologist Dr. Craig Woodson. It was developed by the Percussion Marketing Council (PMC), with support from NAMM (the International Music Products Association) and the International House of Blues Foundation (IHOBF). The goals of Roots of Rhythm are to get 5th and 6th grade students excited about drums, rhythm making, and learning, and to offer teachers an exciting, hands-on curriculum that supports current state teaching content standards.
